How to Use Halftone (Grayscale) Images with K40 Whisperer

When working with K40 Whisperer, you may have noticed that the image displayed is shown in grayscale when the Halftone option is turned on. This is because the image is being converted into a halftone representation, which simulates grayscale by using a dithering effect.

To generate a halftone image in K40 Whisperer, you need to select the Halftone setting in the Raster settings. This feature allows you to create grayscale images with your laser engraver, not just limited to red, blue, and black.

To get started, open the SVG file you want to use in Inkscape and save it as an SVG file. Then, adjust the size of the document to match the area you want to export. You can do this by going to 'File' > 'Document Properties' > 'Resize Page to Content.'

Keep in mind that Raster Engraving is not supported for DXF files, so make sure to save your design as an SVG file.

When working with K40 Whisperer, it's also important to note the different colors used to indicate raster engraving and vector engraving. Black and other colors are used to indicate raster engraving, while blue lines are used to indicate vector engraving.

If you're looking for a laser engraver that will work with K40 Whisperer, a good rule of thumb is to check if it comes with LaserDRW (Laser Draw) software. If the laser comes with this software, it should also work with K40 Whisperer.

Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor that allows you to create designs using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format. It has capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw, or Xara X and can be used in conjunction with K40 Whisperer for engraving.

Some examples of controller boards known to work with K40 Whisperer include:

You can also look at the markings on the controller board to determine which one you have. To do this, go to 'Properties' from the LaserDRW (or CorelDraw) Engraving Manager window and look at which board is selected for the 'Mainboard' option.

The boards that work with K40 Whisperer are made by Lihuiyu, and only boards that work with LaserDRW will work with K40 Whisperer.
