How to Install Windows 10 Bootcamp on Big Sur

Installing Windows 10 Bootcamp on your Mac running Big Sur can be a bit of a process, but with these steps, you'll be dual-booting in no time. Before we begin, make sure to use the exFAT or FAT32 file system and connect at least a 4GB flash drive to your PC.

First, locate your flash drive on the list, right-click it, and choose Format. Once formatted, create the partition for macOS, and then format the flash drive using the GPT format. If your drives aren't using the GPT format, you'll need to convert MBR to GPT without file loss. You can refer to our guide on how to do this.

Next, check if your hard drives are using GPT by looking for a star in the GPT column. If they don't have a star, it means that your drives aren't using GPT. Before proceeding, make sure you've converted MBR to GPT.

Now, restart your Mac and follow the instructions on the screen to upgrade to Windows 11. After the process is finished, you'll dual-boot Windows 11 and macOS on your Mac computer without any issues.

To start the installation process, open the Settings app and head to the Update & Security section. Select Dev Channel and click on Confirm. Then, select Link an account and enter your Microsoft account credentials. In the right pane, click on Get started button.

Next, in the left pane, select Windows Insider Program. If you don't hold the Option key (Alt) during boot and select the desired operating system, you'll be stuck in OOBE (Out of Box Experience). To avoid this, make sure to hold the Option key during boot.

Once the drivers are downloaded, click on Finish. Now, click Install to download the necessary Windows drivers. During the installation, it's advised to disconnect all nonessential external devices.

Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) and follow the instruction until you reach the 'Which type of installation do you want' screen. Select the desired language and the version of Windows that you want to install.

After selecting the installation options, your Mac will now boot from the Windows 10 ISO. Since Windows 11 ISO isn't officially available for download yet, we used Windows 10 ISO instead.

Once the installation is complete, you'll be able to dual-boot between Windows 10 and macOS on your Big Sur-running Mac.
